Our "pandemic dog" is now 5 years old!  Since we got him at the beginning of the pandemic, he doesn't know not having us home all the time.  He seems to be OK being alone just for our weekly bike rides.

For a while in the mid-oughts, we lived in Tennessee and Wilson was born there.  While looking for a house, we rented for a few months from a colleague of Amy's who also worked at the DuPont plant in New Johnsonville.

Landscaping

We have always done our own landscaping at previous houses and even at this house: so far, just re-mulching what the builder put in and adding some metal edging.  We decided earlier in the year to get professionally re-done.  Then, the Ice-pocalypse happened and EVERYONE's landscaping died.  Fortunately, we were already in the queue.  I think they are almost done - there are a few minor things to clean up.  The image should alternate between before and after as it's an animated GIF, but if that doesn't work, the before/after photos are below.

Colt's Birthday

According to Colt's AKC paperwork, today is his 4th birthday!

We thought he needed a birthday cake.  Turns out, you can get ANYTHING on the Internet.  Even a cake for dogs.  Even though the ingredients are all recognizable, they say humans shouldn't eat it - only because it's approved by the USDA instead of the FDA.

As you'll see in the photos, Colt could smell the cake on the counter.  Then, like any kid he licked the frosting off first, then ate the entire serving in one bite!

Wilson Brand

During 7th Grade in Texas, your social studies class is Texas History.  Recently, Wilson was studying the times when railroads were arriving and the "vaqueros" would have to drive cattle from Texas up to Missouri and Kansas to get on a train to packing plants back east.  They went for $3-$6 per head here, but $40 each up there so the trip was worthwhile.  As an interesting side note, we live in the town of Katy, Texas - named for the MKT railroad that replaced the cattle drives to Missouri and Kansas from Texas (hence "MKT").  The 'M' in KaTy is silent.  Part of the social studies unit was

Colt Arrived

Fitting, perhaps that the next posting we have here is of our new dog!  Colt's family was a) away at work all day and b) out of state three weeks at a time.  They purchased Colt for their son as a comfort dog at college, but college said no dogs over 60 pounds.  Colt is 106!  He's about 3 years old and seems very well-behaved.  We'll update this as we get to know him.  Until then, here is a current photo and one we found on PetKey.org when registering his microchip (we think he's the one in the back based on coloring).

Roxy Died

On Sunday the third of March 2013, we got a phone call that we should come over and pick up a dog.  Although we had considered finding one some day, it was truly a surprise to suddenly be an owner.  We brought Roxy home with only her collar and some of her food.  A friend even had to lend us a piece of rope for a leash.  We became fast friends as I described in my first posting about it a few days later on Wilson's Forum.
